Welcome

Welcome to English for the workplace ... and other places besides. As the name suggests, this is a course management system designed to help you improve both your business English skills as well as your general English. The aim is to use this platform to deliver tailored course material that we can review in our weekly face-to-face lessons, and to provide plenty of self-access material.

Click on your initials tab on the top navigation bar to find your way to your individual page and to check for material updates and weekly assignments. Oftentimes, there will be a document that you can download, work on and print out in time for the lesson. The latest material will always appear at the top of the page, preceded by the date when we'll review it.

Click on the Issues of interest for work and safety heading in the box in the right-hand sidebar to access a specially compiled newspaper containing updated and archived articles on a range of current issues. The right-hand sidebar also includes lists of Language learning links and Other useful links for self-study and reference purposes. The left-hand sidebar contains news stories from different sources, as well as automatic Word of the day and other Of the day features.

This month's focus is on the communication tool Slidedocs.

This month's focus is Prezi, the non-linear zooming presentation tool that has become PowerPoint's biggest rival. Here are some tips on presentation delivery using Prezi.

This month's focus is a presentation from the Slideshare website, which is a great resource for sharing presentations on almost every subject under the sun, as well as seeing how other presenters have designed their slides. Here's an example on an appropriate subject - giving a presentation in a foreign language.

This week's focus is a TED talk entitled:

How your body language shapes who you are

Note that with many TED talks you can turn on English subtitles in the bottom right-hand control panel on the video screen once you press play.
